Troy, MI (September 2022) – Shortly after the school year begins, the holiday season fast approaches and the United Community Family Services/Chaldean American Ladies of Charity are seeking donations to stock their food pantry for the upcoming Holiday Season.
“Ever since the pandemic and inflation hit, our food prices have increased by 30 to 40 percent making it more challenging for UCFS/CALC to help local families to put food on the table,” said Kristin Olmedo, executive director. “We have hundreds of families that depend on our Food Pantry in Troy for their daily meals. We are currently facing a shortage of food.”
Some of the items needed this season include turkeys, chickens, oil, salt, rice, sugar, honey, raisins, cake mix, tomato paste, spaghetti pasta, cake frosting, vermicelli noodles and boxed mashed potatoes.
“There are many staple items in a typical Middle Eastern pantry,” said Olmedo. “These items enable the families to prepare traditional dishes for the Holiday Season.”
The non-profit collaborates with both Forgotten Harvest and Gleaners and with the Midwest Independent Retailers Association (MIRA) which helped get the food pantry open. They serve hundreds of people through the food pantry in the Southeast Michigan including Oakland, Macomb, and Wayne Counties.
